The Babize Bonke Campaign
Babize Bonke is Jozi My Jozi’s big, loud call to the city: call everyone, let them all come. It’s an ongoing storytelling campaign that puts Jozi’s real heroes at the centre – the gardeners, artists, food innovators, educators, DJs, activists and dreamers who are quietly rebuilding the inner city from the ground up.
Through short films, portraits and youth-led content, Babize Bonke makes the invisible visible. Each champion’s story reveals a different side of Jozi’s heartbeat – a rooftop farm here, a reimagined tower there, a community kitchen, a learning hub, a block reclaimed for play. Together, they flip the narrative from “dangerous downtown” to a living, breathing city of hustle, care and creativity.
