Place Making

Where engineering plans meet street soul

where engineering plans meet street soul

The Jozi My Jozi Gateway Project treats the city’s entry points as giant canvases, not just traffic infrastructure. Placemaking is where the engineering plans meet street soul - cleaning, lighting and fixing what’s broken, then layering on art, colour and stories that say: you’ve arrived in Jozi, not anywhere else.

At each gateway we work with artists, residents, commuters, precinct managers and the City to co-design spaces that feel safer, brighter and worth lingering in. Murals, sculptures, street furniture, landscaping, solar lighting and CCTV are all designed as one integrated experience, shifting gateways from no-go zones to bold welcome mats.

This is creative placemaking with teeth: practical upgrades plus powerful symbols that change how people feel about coming into town. As more gateways flip from neglected to iconic, a new mental map of Jozi starts to form - one where the inner city is legible, loved and proudly claimed by the people who move through it every day.
