In August 2025, Jozi My Jozi ran a pilot Point In Time Count to get beyond guesswork and capture real data on homelessness in targeted parts of the city. Over 200 volunteers and enumerators fanned out across the CBD, Hillbrow, Linden and key transport corridors, gathering live information on rough sleeping, conditions and access to services. 

The pilot deliberately focused on limited zones as a test run for future citywide counts. On that single night, 1 204 people were observed sleeping or living on the street, with more than 2 000 reported through interviews and group estimates. The lesson was clear: when you combine disciplined methods with community power, Jozi can generate data strong enough to shape serious policy and programme decisions.
